BIOGRAPHY
Byron L. Carlson, FIC, MBA-CLU, LLIF - Director, National Fraternal Congress of America
Byron Carlson is the fraternal director at Modern Woodmen of America, Rock Island, Ill., where he is responsible for developing and promoting fraternal programs and activities for members and serves as the administrator of the society’s fraternal benefits program.
Carlson began his career with Modern Woodmen in 1968 and has served in various agency department positions. He became manager of product research in 1985 and assumed his current position in January 1998.
He received an associate’s degree from Black Hawk College, Moline, Ill. and bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Western Illinois University, Macomb. He has earned his Fraternal Insurance Counsellor (FIC), Life Underwriter Training Council (LUTC) and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designations. Carlson also earned the LIMRA Leadership Institute Fellow (LLIF) and has completed several Life Office Management Association (LOMA) courses.
Carlson was appointed to a one-year term as a director on the board of the National Fraternal Congress of America in September 2005. He has also served on the board of JOIN HANDS DAY since 2000. He is a member of the National Association of Fraternal Insurance Counsellors (NAFIC), the American Society of CLU and ChFC, and of the local Life Underwriters. Carlson is a former member and past president of the Orion Board of Education, Lion’s Club and Fall Festival committee. He is member of the board of Bethany for Children and Families, past chair of the Life Insurance Marketing and Research Association (LIMRA) Quality Business committee. He has also served on the Black Hawk Area Special Education Governing Board, East Moline, Ill., and is a past member of the Western Illinois University Alumni Council.
At Modern Woodmen, Carlson serves on the Law and Fraternal committees. He also served on the President’s Advisory and Compliance Oversight committees.
Carlson has one daughter and two granddaughters. He resides in Orion, Ill.
