In 2008, the fraternal benefit system experienced significant financial market turmoil. Many societies are facing financial decisions and accounting practices unfamiliar in years past. Perhaps for the first time, you must deal with other-than-temporary impairment of investments; depletion of the asset valuation reserve; and additional reserve requirements brought about by risk-based capital calculations; all amidst normal year-end challenges.
