The National Fraternal Congress of America Hires New Director of Meeting Services

OAK BROOK, IL – The National Fraternal Congress of America (NFCA) today announced the hiring of Marie Shaw as its new Director of Meeting Services.
In this position, Ms. Shaw is responsible for planning and managing the NFCA’s annual meeting, section mid-year meetings, all committee meetings and other events for the NFCA and its sections. Ms. Shaw also will work with the Communications and Marketing Department to develop program announcements and registration materials for the annual meeting, and to develop pages on the NFCA Web site for this event. Ms. Shaw begins work at the NFCA today, April 10.
“We’re delighted to have Marie join the NFCA headquarters staff,” said NFCA President and CEO Frederick H. Grubbe. “She brings a great deal of professional meeting planning experience and expertise to this position. I’m confident that she will help the NFCA continue its tradition of high-quality, educational venues and meetings.”
Ms. Shaw is a Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) with more than 20 years of meeting planning experience, as well as 10 years of work experience with various associations. Most recently, she was the Director of Meeting Services for the American Association of Diabetes Educators in Chicago, Illinois. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in International Business from the Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois. Ms. Shaw also is a member of the Professional Convention Management Association and the International Association of Exposition Management.
As one of her first priorities, Ms. Shaw will help develop the program for the 120th NFCA Annual Meeting, being held September 7-9, 2006, at the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Gainey Ranch in Scottsdale, Arizona. The 120-year-old NFCA unites 76 not-for-profit fraternal benefit societies operating in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Canada. The association represents almost 10 million people in 36,000 local chapters, making it one of America’s largest member networks. Fraternal benefit societies provide their members with leadership, social, educational, spiritual, patriotic, scholarship, financial and volunteer-service opportunities. Combined, the NFCA’s member-societies maintain more than $315 billion of life insurance-in-force and, in 2004 alone, contributed almost $390 million to charitable and fraternal programs. In addition, fraternalists volunteered approximately 91.5 million hours toward community-service projects during that same period.
