Fraternal Advantage - Fall 2009

New Fraternal Identity Brochure Now Available

The National Fraternal Congress of America (NFCA) has created a new fraternal identity brochure, which answers the question "what is a fraternal benefit society?".  This brochure is the first step in a long-term effort by NFCA to enhance the awareness of fraternal benefit societies among our key audiences, including state and federal public policymakers, opinion leaders in the media, current and prospective agents, and current and prospective members.

"It has never been more important for fraternal benefit societies to let people know 'who we are and what we do,'” said NFCA President and CEO Joseph J. Annotti.  "As I’ve said many times, I’m convinced that if more folks knew about the fraternal option they would wholeheartedly embrace it."

This brochure is available to NFCA member-societies and state fraternal congresses free of charge, and we encourage you to use it in a variety of ways, such as:

·         Meetings and correspondence between society executives, agents, and/or local lodge officials and state and federal public policymakers.

·         Meetings and correspondence with the editor or reporters from your local newspapers.

·         Mailings to current and prospective agents.

·         Distribution at your society’s fraternal activities and local lodge meetings.

NFCA is also working on two additional promotional pieces to be inserted into the back pocket of the brochure.  The first document (which also can be used on a stand-alone basis) is a one-page summary of the information contained in the larger brochure.  The second document is an overview of the impact of fraternals’ contributions to the health and well-being of communities on a state-by-state basis.  We think this will be particularly effective in “bringing our message home” to state and federal public policymakers.  We expect both of these additional documents to be available by late November.

We hope you find this new brochure both enlightening and useful.  If you would like to order a supply for your society, please contact the NFCA headquarters at nfca@nfcanet.org.

We welcome your comments on the brochure and your suggestions as to how NFCA can work with members to more effectively communicate the value of the fraternal option to our most important audiences.  Please send your comments and/or ideas to Rose Riccetti, NFCA Director of Public Affairs, at rriccetti@nfcanet.org.
