The NFCA Secretaries and Human Resource Mid-Year Meeting were held at Don Shula’s Hotel and Golf Club on March 14-15, 2008. The attendees enjoyed the warm sunshine, great food and an option to enjoy a game of golf. They also had the opportunity to hear and participate in an array of professional presentations. The presentations included:

·        NFCA Chair Katharine Rounthwaite, who welcomed the attendees and reiterated her goals for 2008.

·         NFCA Interim Preident and CEO Bob Huxel gave the attendees an NFCA update.

·         David Ramsey, Consulting Actuary, pointed out procedures to follow in order to write profitable products.

·         John Cook, Vice President, Optimum Re, presented a history and a future outlook for reinsurance.

·         Janet Goulart, Vice President of HR and Assistant Corporate Secretary, Gleaner Life Insurance Society, and Marty Mabe, Vice President of Admin. and Corporate Secretary, Catholic Life Insurance, presented what practices a society may want to outsource.

·         Brandon Tomchuk, Manager of Sales Support, Westbrook Technologies, Inc., brought us up-to-date with the latest document scanning procedures.

·         Shelia Borland, Orisure Technologies, presented facts and fiction about oral fluid testing.

·         Everyone’s favorite presentation was the roundtable discussion on operational concerns facilitated by Al Lorge, Sr. V.P., Secretary/Treasurer, & CFO, Catholic Knights.

These educational opportunities are a continuous update to a better knowledge, understanding and commitment to the fraternal system.
